Preclinical studies suggest selective cytotoxicity toward cancer cells expressing abnormal p53/HDM-2 while sparing normal cells.
PNC-27 is a chimeric peptide consisting of a segment derived from the p53 tumor suppressor protein (residues 12–26) fused to a membrane-penetrating leader sequence. Preclinical studies indicate that PNC-27 selectively binds to HDM-2 expressed on the surface of cancer cells, inducing membrane destabilization and necrotic cell death while sparing normal cells.
